A Vintage Shop Shopper
October 20, 2008
I am a true blue thrift shopper, trolling for vintage.. and I have to be honest I haven’t been a vintage shop shopper. I have endured hours upon hours in thrift stores searching for the few vintage treasures amongst all the trash - but recently I have been falling in love with vintage shop shopping.
It’s not that I have had anything against vintage stores, but have always seemed to relish the hunt in thrifts galore. Now, I pop into vintage stores and have a rush - different than my scavenger rush in a thrift store - more like a rush of the amazing collection before me. Instead of walking into a boutique with all new clothes, I have walked into vintage heaven.
There is still a search to find the pieces that make me swoon, and I do have to dish out a little more cash - but it is so worth it. The vintage is well selected and being a avid thrifter, I know what is hard to come by - so I can choose to spend a little more dough for something I know is rare AND RIDICULOUS!
(ridiculous is my book is another word for fabulous!)
So all this to say, I have been finding the best and greatest vintage shops in my area (I’ll let you in on some in the coming months). On a recent visit to Swellegant Vintage I found a slew of 70’s dresses and walked out a happy girl!
(Dress - Swellegant Vintage, Shoes - Steve Madden, Clutch - vintage Crossroads Trading Co., Necklace- Suzettes)

You are so right! I have the same feelings about vintage shops VS thrift stores, they both have their own place in my clothing world. I thrift so much that it can be hard to spend the extra money at a vintage boutique, but they do have some amazing things and without all the digging and hunting! It feels so good to be in a shop filled with high-quality goods. Totally fun.

Great dress, you’ve inspired me to check out a vintage shop this week, it’s been a while.

I would love to know more about those shoes. Season, style name? I have been looking for a pair of brown leather platforms and have purchased a few, but none have really done it for me. Thanks!

I absolutely need the hunt in a thrift store. it feels like shooting fish in a barrel to walk into a vintage shop and find something fabulous and overpriced. but at the same time, I’m glad they exist…
