Sending Shivers

November 10, 2008

It was the perfect fall day - cool, blustery, and chilled! Finally I felt justified for wearing warmth. All of a sudden fall weather adds a huge element to your look. Now you can pile on creativity.  Create outfits simply by layering one thing on top of another. It sends shivers down my spine - shivers of excitement.

Rains brings out the cozy in me - an opportunity to curl up in wooly sweaters, knit hats and comfy jeans. So when the rain came, I turned toward my favorite new sweater and pulled out my striped “grunge”-inspired beanie to warm my insides. Yeah, the sun did come out - but a girl’s got to wear the warm-woolies when she gets the chance.. even if it is just for a minute.

Bouquet of Flowers

November 3, 2008

Another find from my new favorite vintage shop! My birthday is fast approaching and I am already compiling a list of “must-haves” from this little bit of heaven. I love this short sleeve dinner coat with the embellishment of the white stitched bouquet of flowers. A classic that will last a lifetime.

Two of the Same

October 31, 2008

The shoes have arrived! I know two of the same. I can’t help it – they are essential, and to have a black and a brown option is just about perfection!

Speaking of perfection, I came across this fur vest in the racks of a thrift store while visiting Palm Springs a few weeks ago. The squeals of excitement were heard around the shop as I noticed the striped color palette and front pockets.

My fur vest finally made it out of the closet, due to clouds brewing overhead. Keeping it California warm weather appropriate I paired it with this oversized tee, belted with gold chains and pulled out my barely worn skinnies.

New Found Happiness

October 29, 2008

A few new finds make a girl happy!

Find One - a vintage 70’s secretary dress in a vibrant red that would make any day fantastically fabulous.

Find Two - a vintage animal print clutch from my latest obsession, a little vintage shop called “Elsewhere Vintage”, and yes I will be featuring a story on this oh-so-grand store!

Find Three - thanks to the people at SoleStruck I was sent these INCREDIBLE Jeffrey Campbell brown python heels, they are without a doubt the most comfortable platform heels my feet have ever worn.

A Vintage Shop Shopper

October 20, 2008

I am a true blue thrift shopper, trolling for vintage.. and I have to be honest I haven’t been a vintage shop shopper. I have endured hours upon hours in thrift stores searching for the few vintage treasures amongst all the trash - but recently I have been falling in love with vintage shop shopping.

It’s not that I have had anything against vintage stores, but have always seemed to relish the hunt in thrifts galore. Now, I pop into vintage stores and have a rush - different than my scavenger rush in a thrift store - more like a rush of the amazing collection before me. Instead of walking into a boutique with all new clothes, I have walked into vintage heaven.

There is still a search to find the pieces that make me swoon, and I do have to dish out a little more cash - but it is so worth it. The vintage is well selected and being a avid thrifter, I know what is hard to come by - so I can choose to spend a little more dough for something I know is rare AND RIDICULOUS!
(ridiculous is my book is another word for fabulous!)

So all this to say, I have been finding the best and greatest vintage shops in my area (I’ll let you in on some in the coming months). On a recent visit to Swellegant Vintage I found a slew of 70’s dresses and walked out a happy girl!
