Sending Shivers

November 10, 2008

It was the perfect fall day - cool, blustery, and chilled! Finally I felt justified for wearing warmth. All of a sudden fall weather adds a huge element to your look. Now you can pile on creativity.  Create outfits simply by layering one thing on top of another. It sends shivers down my spine - shivers of excitement.

Welcome to a new feature on The Vintage Society! Every other Friday, I will be featuring shops around the world. They may be local shops in my neighborhood (great for any Society Girl on the West Coast), shops in other states around the country, or most often shops online (that any Society Girl can enjoy).

I want to spread the good news of great little haunts that feature vintage or vintage-inspired clothes, jewelry, handbags.. basically anything fabulous for Society Girls to make their own. Side note to any online shop owners.. contact me to be featured.

So we begin with my latest obsession of a shop, I have hinted around this one, but wanted to wait until I could give you a sneek peak into the world of Elsewhere Vintage! For those in Southern Californina, you must make this a new stop on your shopping excursions. Tucked away in Old Towne Orange, one of the prettiest little towns you’ve ever seen, you will find this hidden treasure. I have long waited for a vintage shop to pop up in my neck of the woods that oozes such flare.. and now it is here!

Elsewhere Vintage feels fresh and unique, with a boutique atmosphere. The selection you will find is top notch, anything from 1920’s through the 1980’s. There is no need to claw and pick through stacks - it is all neatly organized and displayed - and I love that it is sorted by style not era. You may even find Christian Dior or more! Oh… and the accessories are to die for.. ecspecially the purse selection.. I have my eye on at least 10 must-haves.

On a final note: Being an avid thrifter, I must say, that I know what is easy and hard to find when it comes to vintage clothing - and what you will find at Elsewhere is the hard to find - unbelievable - one of a kind peices!

Add Elsewhere Vintage to your list of places to shop..I promise.. it will be worth it. And good news, for those salivating who live outside of California, they plan to sell online as well!

Rains brings out the cozy in me - an opportunity to curl up in wooly sweaters, knit hats and comfy jeans. So when the rain came, I turned toward my favorite new sweater and pulled out my striped “grunge”-inspired beanie to warm my insides. Yeah, the sun did come out - but a girl’s got to wear the warm-woolies when she gets the chance.. even if it is just for a minute.

Never shy away from an opportunity for elegance.. and in Society Girl terms.. that could be anytime, anyplace. Drip on the jewels, brace yourself in bangles, top it off with hats, wrap it up in leopard, jewel tones or just about anything fabulous - and you are ready for your date with destiny.

Instant Outfit: Riding Boots

November 4, 2008

A Society Girl recently wrote in saying this, “I’m wondering would you do an Instant Outfit for me on a particular piece? I’m coveting these brown riding boots…”

Well, her wish is my command, and I was particularly excited to tackle the brown riding boots. They are a great fall-winter staple and perfect for a day walking through the city or hitting up your local flea market. Time to go riding!

Bouquet of Flowers

November 3, 2008

Another find from my new favorite vintage shop! My birthday is fast approaching and I am already compiling a list of “must-haves” from this little bit of heaven. I love this short sleeve dinner coat with the embellishment of the white stitched bouquet of flowers. A classic that will last a lifetime.

Two of the Same

October 31, 2008

The shoes have arrived! I know two of the same. I can’t help it – they are essential, and to have a black and a brown option is just about perfection!

Speaking of perfection, I came across this fur vest in the racks of a thrift store while visiting Palm Springs a few weeks ago. The squeals of excitement were heard around the shop as I noticed the striped color palette and front pockets.

My fur vest finally made it out of the closet, due to clouds brewing overhead. Keeping it California warm weather appropriate I paired it with this oversized tee, belted with gold chains and pulled out my barely worn skinnies.

She is a blogger, she is a model, she works for Elle Sweden. What more could a girl ask for? Her use of hats, a cute blonde bob, and re-use of wardrobe favorites are all signatures that stand out.

She is a bit of a modern day Bianca Jagger . She is our Society Girl of the Week..
